Aquatic Technician

JOB TITLE:    Aquatic Technician

JOB PURPOSE: To develop, install and maintain aquatic sensor network and associated data streams in support of WyACT, a 5-year NSF-funded project. This position may be filled for 4 years, subject to annual performance evaluations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, install and maintain aquatic sensor network and associated data streams  
  • Deploy and maintain lake buoys  
  • Coordinate use and maintenance of research boat 
  • Data QA/QC 
  • Initial data preparation and visualization 

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare technical repair manuals and technical reports on the progress of projects, as directed. 
  • Instruct others on troubleshooting, repairing, installation, and operation of equipment.
  • Recommend equipment and supply purchases, as needed.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Associate’s degree in a related field and 5 years work-related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Interest and experience with data management 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • M.S. degree in ecology, environmental science, engineering, or related field  
  • Demonstrated experience and capability with sensor installation, operation and development  
  • Experience with boat operation and maintenance 
  • Experience with large data streams 
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills 
  • Field experience in lake and reservoir environments 
  • Interest in climate change research 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
