Job Summary

The Aquatic Ecology Research Scientist will support and lead various Great Lakes aquatic ecology research projects. Duties will include study design, laboratory sample analyses, data management and analyses, presentations, reporting and manuscript preparation. In addition, the position will contribute to Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant’s aquatic ecology outreach program and on-campus engagement.

Duties

  • Collaboratively contribute to planning of research design and coordination of field, laboratory and experimental studies
  • Train and supervise student researchers and oversee laboratory management (ichthyoplankton, invertebrate, fish) priorities
  • Data management and analyses leading to research and management recommendations
  • Prepare reports, manuscripts and oral presentations
  • Development and delivery of outreach programming and coordination related to Great Lakes aquatic ecology, including on-campus engagement, workshops, fact sheets, web-content and social media

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Fisheries, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Sciences, or related field
  • Strong background with statistical analyses and experimental design
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Interest and ability to effectively communicate to non-scientific audiences
  • Valid U.S. or Canadian driver's license
