Aquatic Project Manager/Biologist: Freshwater assessment in North Carolina National Forests - Clemson University

Compensation: 
  • $75,000 per year for 5 years
  • Full insurance and benefits
 
Start date: January 29, 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter

Overview: We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate to lead the coordination of a large, collaborative effort aimed at assessing freshwater ecosystem responses to the effects of Hurricane Helene in the National Forests of North Carolina, USA. Primary job duties will include (1) coordinating numerous field crews comprised of graduate and undergraduate students, and (2) liaising between the university, federal, state, and nongovernmental partners to accomplish project objectives. We are recruiting one freshwater specialist and one terrestrial specialist.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Recruiting and staffing temporary employees for field crews
  • Coordinating field efforts and logistics among crews, including travel, housing, gear allocation, etc.
  • Coordinating data management and QA/QC
  • Overseeing gear allocation, maintenance, and purchasing
  • Maintaining routine and clear communication between field crews and primary investigators
  • Participating in scientific advising of graduate and/or undergraduate students, assisting with and collaborating on analyses, writing, etc.
 
The ideal candidates will have:
  • A PhD or MS degree in wildlife/fisheries, ecology, biology, or equivalent
  • Competitive practical experience in conducting and leading freshwater or terrestrial research
  • Experience in project/personnel management
  • Experience collaborating with biologists from agencies, NGOs, industry etc.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
