Position Announcement: The Department Natural Resources Management invites qualified candidates to apply for a 9-month, tenure-track position at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor in Fisheries & Aquatic Sciences. The anticipated start date is September 2019.

The Department: The Department of Natural Resources Management consists of 15 full-time faculty members. There are approximately 325 undergraduate and 60 graduate students currently enrolled. Degrees offered include a B.S. in Natural Resources Management with emphasis areas in Fisheries Biology, Wildlife Biology, Conservation Science, Range Conservation, or Ranch Management, as well as a separate B.S. in Conservation Law Enforcement. Degrees are also offered at M.S. and Ph.D. levels in Wildlife, Aquatic, and Wildlands Science and Management. The department has a strong record of multidisciplinary research and houses management and research staff from state and federal natural resources agencies. The Department is also home to the United States Geological Survey Texas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Unit and promotes teaching and research activity at the Llano River Field Station in Junction, Texas. The Department is part of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Texas Tech University, along with five additional departments: Agricultural and Applied Economics, Agricultural Education and Communications, Animal and Food Sciences, Landscape Architecture, and Plant and Soil Science.

The University: Texas Tech University is one of four major state-supported multidisciplinary universities in Texas. The University consists of ten colleges, School of Law, The Graduate School, and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Currently, more than 38,000 students attend classes at the Lubbock campus. Texas Tech University recently surpassed the Hispanic student population threshold necessary for designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The City of Lubbock has about 250,000 residents, with a moderate to low cost of living, and is in the Southern High Plains region of the United States.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a strong commitment to research and teaching in the area of fisheries and aquatic sciences. A Ph.D. in fisheries, aquatic sciences, or closely related field is required. Preference will be given to field-oriented scientists with research expertise in fish population ecology, conservation genetics, native or endangered species, aquatic habitats, limnology, stream ecology, estuaries, reservoirs, urban fisheries, and/or human dimensions. Candidates should have a strong record of scholarship supported by extramural funding and a proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to the university. Teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate courses in fisheries conservation and management, freshwater ecology, and freshwater bioassessment, as well as one or more graduate classes in an area of expertise and interest. Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable. Service to the department, college, and university is also expected.

Salary: Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The individual will be eligible for a generous benefit package made available to all faculty members at Texas Tech University.
