The Southern California Coastal Water Research Project Authority (www.sccwrp.org), a government research institute that specializes in environmental research and transitioning research to management, is seeking an early- to mid-career scientist to help us develop an innovative research program to develop data analysis and visualization tools. The program is aimed at translating complex environmental monitoring data into actionable information that informs state and regional-level aquatic resource management.

This position will be part of a broadly disciplined team of physical and natural resource scientists who work together to leverage data from large regional monitoring programs to better understand the condition of freshwater and/or marine environments, the effects of anthropogenic disturbance on physical habitat and biological communities, and potential management responses. The candidate should have a strong science background, expertise in analysis of large data sets, strong programming skills, familiarity with open data science practices, and development of data visualizations geared to management audiences. The position requires working with a diverse team of scientists and managers, so strong interpersonal and communication skills are also important.

The preferred candidate will possess a Ph.D. in physical/biological/data sciences and a proven ability to publish. Master’s candidates with at least 5 years of direct experience and documented ability to conduct independent research will also be considered.

Salary range is commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a rich benefits package. Interested parties should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and professional references to dataviz@sccwrp.org. Applications will be considered until the position is filled. SCCWRP is an equal opportunity employer.
