Are you interested in pursuing an applied research career as an Environmental Scientist with the City of Austin? Are you passionate about environmental health, urban watersheds, and the quality-of-life outcomes that healthy creeks provide? The Watershed Protection Department has posted a supervisor position managing a team of scientists with the Applied Watershed Research Section. This group strives to improve watershed health in Austin primarily through monitoring, data analysis, and the identification, development and testing of solutions that help us understand and address the mechanisms that degrade our watersheds. Our preferred candidates will have skill/experience in one or more of these areas:

  • Knowledge, experience, and comfort with issues of equity, inclusion, and diversity and how these dynamics affect the work environment. 
  • Experience supervising a multidisciplinary team of scientists
  • Experience designing, managing, analyzing, and reporting on interdisciplinary research projects
  • Experience with field monitoring methods and equipment in the aquatic, riparian, and upland environments.
