Aquatic Bioassay & Consulting Laboratories, Inc., is seeking a full time field biologist to work in our Marine and Freshwater Biology Division. The job requires someone that has an academic background in one of the following or similar areas: biology, hydrology, or environmental science. This position involves biological surveys, data entry and reporting for projects throughout California.
Qualifications:
- BA or BS in Biology Valid CA Driver’s license
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Watershed-wide sampling in creeks, riparian habitats and estuaries
- Nearshore ocean monitoring including water and sediment quality monitoring, and trawling for fish and invertebrates
- Identification of marine and freshwater fish and invertebrates
- Ability to conduct terrestrial and ocean field work for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather and/or rugged terrain
- Prepare and organize team for field operations
- Ability to carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Taxonomy laboratory sorting and quality control of benthic infauna and benthic macroinvertebrates samples
- Microbiology media preparation, analysis, and collection of bacteria samples (Multiple Tube Fermentation and IDEXX)
- Maintenance of field equipment and sensors
- Working with Word, Excel, Access, R
- Data entry and reporting
Work hours include weekends, holidays and overtime.
