Gar Technician, Summer-Fall 2025 — Oklahoma State University
Description
The Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at Oklahoma State University is hiring technicians to aid in the capture and tracking of Alligator Gar. We are seeking to understand movement and population genetics of Alligator Gar in the lower Red River. Technicians will experience a multitude of duties relating to the capture and tagging of Alligator Gar such as equipment maintenance, gillnetting and tagging gar with PIT and acoustic tags, sample processing, acoustic receiver downloading, and data sharing.
Qualifications
Recent graduate with BS or working towards degree in wildlife, fisheries, or aquatic ecology, with at least 1-year of relevant experience sampling for fishes, including large bodied species such as gar. Gillnetting and boating experience is preferred. Technicians must have a strong work ethic and work well with others.
Travel Required. The reporting location is Stillwater, Oklahoma and does not include housing. Overnight camping may be required
Requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be in good physical condition
- Must be able to operate on a flexible schedule
- Able to work in adverse field conditions
