The Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences program (AES) at South Dakota Mines
invites applications for a full-time Instructor, Lecturer, or Senior Lecturer in Atmospheric
and Environmental Sciences with an anticipated start date of August 2023. This is a full-
time, 9-month, benefited, term position. Preference will be given to candidates with
interest and experience in teaching a broad range of Atmospheric and Environmental
Science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

An earned M.S or Doctorate degree in Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science,
Biology, Ecology, or a closely related discipline is required by the time of appointment.
Experience teaching at the university level and expertise in areas such as global
environmental change, biogeochemistry, NEPA compliance, or air quality is desired.
The ideal candidate will also be able to develop classes in their area of expertise to
compliment current program strengths. Expectations will include teaching courses,
curriculum development, supervising student capstone projects, advising students, and

The AES program is housed in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
at South Dakota Mines. The program offers degrees at the bachelors, masters and
PhD level with students specializing in either atmospheric or environmental sciences
specializations. The program has an interdisciplinary focus, with faculty expertise
including hydrometeorology, climate science and resiliency, wildfire meteorology,
severe storm dynamics, mesoscale meteorology, numerical weather prediction, biology,
aquatic ecology, and sustainability. We are seeking a new faculty member who can
complement these areas of strength by having skills and expertise in environmental
