The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa invites outstanding individuals to apply for the J. Nicholene Bishop Professorship in Freshwater Biology. This is a full-time (9-month) tenured position at the level of Associate/Full Professor. Candidates must have an established, extramurally funded and internationally recognized research program focused within the broad field of freshwater biology. The department’s faculty conducts cutting-edge research in the fields of global change biology, ecosystem ecology and biodiversity science; we seek exceptional candidates who would complement these existing areas of strength. In addition to maintaining an international research presence, the successful applicant will be encouraged to leverage Alabama’s unique and diverse habitats and water resources to lead an innovative research program. Further, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to forge relationships with the NOAA National Water Center, the Alabama Water Research Institute, the University’s Center for Freshwater Studies, local research sites (UA’s Tanglewood Biological Station, nearby NEON sites), and the diverse faculty at UA and Dauphin Island Sea Lab with interests in water-related research.
Applicants must have a Ph.D., evidence of significant intellectual contributions to the field of freshwater biology, a track record of federally funded collaborative research, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching in a biological sciences department at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate courses in general biology or ecology, as well as specialized undergraduate and graduate courses in the successful candidate’s area of expertise.
