MS Assistantship- Effects of Pesticides on Juvenile Trout - Cal Poly Humboldt
Dr. Darren Ward at Cal Poly Humboldt is recruiting one M.S. student for Fall 2026. The student will conduct experiments on the effects of pesticide exposure on juvenile salmonids, with a focus on determining whether pesticides alter predator avoidance behavior. The experiments will take place at the on-campus fish hatchery at Cal Poly Humboldt and will include collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of scientists.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. in fisheries, biology, ecology, toxicology, or a related field
- Eligibility for acceptance to the M.S. program in Natural Resources – Fisheries Concentration (minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA)
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with diverse collaborators from multiple organizations
- Experience maintaining captive fish in a hatchery or laboratory setting
- Experience collecting standardized animal behavior data
- Experience organizing datasets and conducting statistical analyses
