Invertebrate Ecology Postdoctoral Researcher

Southeastern Louisiana University is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to gather and analyze temporal and spatial data on invertebrates (shrimp, crabs, and clams) from Lake Maurepas, a slightly saline lake on the upper end of the Lake Pontchartrain estuary. The postdoctoral researcher will work with the Project Director to develop an invertebrate monitoring program, as well as analyze water quality data from several stationary lake buoys. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Fisheries, Natural Resources, Biology, Zoology or a related field and should have experience collecting and analyzing invertebrate data using standard invertebrate sampling gear, including traps, trawls, grabs, and dredges. Applicants should also have a strong statistical background, as well as expertise in freshwater/estuarine invertebrate diversity, and the ability to gather and analyze community invertebrate data. Applicants must be organized and self-motivated, and have strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a research team. The Postdoctoral Researcher will be required to summarize data, write reports, give presentations, and publish manuscripts. The position will require significant physical exertion (carrying 50 or more pounds) and candidates must be able to work in extreme weather, as well as long days with possible nights and weekends. Interested and qualified candidates should contact Dr. Kyle Piller (kyle.piller@selu.edu) for more information.

Southeastern Louisiana University is seeking applications for two graduate assistants (MS) for an environmental DNA monitoring project. Students will be enrolled in the MS program at Southeastern Louisiana University and will be part of a large biomonitoring team. The graduate assistants will focus on gathering and analyzing temporal and spatial environmental DNA data on fish assemblages in south Louisiana and thesis projects will be developed to meet the goals of the broader monitoring project. Candidates must have a BS degree in aquatic ecology, natural resources, biology, zoology, fisheries, or a related biological related field.  Candidates must have a minimum undergraduate GA of 3.0. Preference will be given to applicants with previous molecular/genetic lab experience. Interested and qualified candidates should contact Dr. Kyle Piller (kyle.piller@selu.edu) for more information.
