Summary
The Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research (CIGLR) at the University of Michigan is seeking a highly motivated candidate for a Postdoctoral Fellow position. The successful candidate will play a key role in our dynamic research team and contribute to developing cutting edge tools for environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis for monitoring invasive species and toxin-producing cyanobacteria species in the Great Lakes. The project objectives include development of eDNA-based high throughput quantitative PCR (HT-qPCR) assays and metabarcoding assays for conservation and management of species of interest in the Great Lakes.

The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Subba Rao Chaganti from the University of Michigan and collaborators from the NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Lab and the United States Geological Survey.

Term Appointment: This is a one year term appointment with the possibility of renewal for a second year contingent on performance.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in microbiology, molecular ecology, biological oceanography, or a related field.
  • Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
  • Fluency in molecular biology techniques and developing assays for species of interest.
  • Experience in high-throughput sequencing platforms and metabarcoding data analysis.
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics processes and statistical analyses.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
  • Strong communication skills. Proficient in data visualization and interpretation.
  • This position is open only to US Citizens or permanent residents due to federal security clearance required for access to NOAA GLERL facilities and resources.
