Bob Hall’s river ecosystem ecology laboratory, at the University of Montana and the Flathead Lake Biological Station seeks to fill a postdoctoral research associate position working on river carbon cycling and ecosystem metabolism. This postdoctoral position will perform independent research on stream ecosystem modeling coupled with the fieldwork. The overall goal is to assess controls on within and among day variation of stream carbon cycling. In particular the postdoctoral position will conduct modeling of metabolism time series in streams and rivers. The post-doctoral position will use data primarily collected by others, plus conduct the field work to collect new data in nearby streams and subject these data to statistical models. The postdoctoral is expected to publish these findings in journals and work collaboratively with FLBS scientific staff and collaborators at other institutions.
Required Skills
• PhD in ecosystem ecology, hydrology or related field.
• Ability to write and publish papers, use and manage large databases, and communicate with others from diverse groups (e.g. agencies, managers, researchers).
• Demonstrated experience of excellent research capabilities required to carry out innovative and insightful research
• Position requires research skills in limnology, hydrology, ecosystem ecology, mathematical modeling, and statistics.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of time series modeling
• Understanding of stream element cycling
