The Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences at Cleveland State University invites applicants for two new, tenure-track assistant professor positions, one in Earth Systems Science and Data Analytics, and a second joint position with the School of Urban Affairs in Environmental Science & Environmental Studies, both starting August 21, 2023.

TENURE-TRACK, FULL-TIME, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF EARTH SYSTEMS SCIENCE & DATA ANALYTICS

The Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences at Cleveland State University invites applicants for a new, tenure-track assistant professor position in Earth Systems Science and Data Analytics starting August 21, 2023. Successful candidates will contribute to and expand department strengths, including conducting internationally recognized research and interdisciplinary teaching in the B.S. and M.S. degree programs in Environmental Science. Candidates skilled in environmental data science with strengths complimentary to our existing faculty such as ecoinformatics, omics, and multi-systems science (i.e., interfaces of land-water, human-natural systems), as well as aquatic systems, are especially encouraged to apply.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • a Ph.D. in earth science, environmental science, ecology, natural resource management, or related disciplines and one year of postdoctoral research experience, or equivalent, accumulated by date of hire
  • substantive answer describing experience serving diverse students or plans to make a positive contribution to CSU’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • experience with diverse forms of environmental data and tools for data analysis, visualization and modeling, and intent and potential to teach courses using these tools in earth science systems, environmental science, natural resource management, and/or other applied sciences

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and competitive with other research-intensive universities. TENURE-TRACK FULL-TIME ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE & ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

The Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences (BGES) and the School of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University invite applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Environmental Science and Environmental Studies with an emphasis on computational tools relevant to biological, environmental, and/or earth-sciences. This joint position is part of the Center for Research on the Urban Environment (CRUE), which links the environmental science and environmental studies programs. The successful candidate would receive a joint appointment in both departments, and tenure will be considered in BGES. The appointment will begin August 21st, 2023. Primary duties include conducting research and teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in Environmental Science and Environmental Studies.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in environmental science, earth science, ecology, natural resource management, an interdisciplinary environmental program with strong science foundations, or a related discipline
  • One year of postdoctoral research experience, or equivalent, accumulated by the hiring date (August 2023)
  • Experience with diverse tools for understanding environmental data and socioecological systems (e.g., data analysis, visualization, modeling, or Geographic Information Systems (GIS))
  • Intent and potential to teach one cross-disciplinary course relevant to bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in environmental studies and environmental science
  • Intent and potential to teach one course relevant to master’s degree programs focused on aspects of data science (e.g., focused on Big Data or data analytics applied to socio-ecological systems such as cities, their regions, and managed land or water resources)
  • Research program focused on interactions between humans and natural systems (e.g., function of human-impacted ecosystems, such as urban or exurban areas; policy or management focused on biodiversity, natural resources, and/or ecosystem services)
