Job Title: Wildlife Biologist (Aquatic Macroinvertebrate Taxonomist)
Location: Missouri Department of Conservation, Central Regional Office and Conservation Research Center, 3500 East Gans Road, Columbia, MO 65201
Pay Rate: $19.10 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week.
End Date: Limited to 2000 hours from August 16, 2022 to June 15, 2023. Position may be extended annually depending upon need, work performance, and funding. This position qualifies for limited health benefits.
Duties: Successful candidate’s primary job duty will be to identify sorted aquatic macroinvertebrate specimens to genus and species. Additional duties will be to sort macroinvertebrate samples, record and manage data for a variety of projects, assist with sampling in the field, inventory and documentation of samples, maintenance of lab and field equipment and supplies, and to perform other duties as required.
Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in biology, fisheries and wildlife management, or environmental sciences with course work in aquatic entomology and one year of experience identifying stream macroinvertebrates to genus and species, or an equivalent combination of education and experience identifying macroinvertebrates of Midwestern streams. Ability to work as member of a team, communicate with other team members and supervisors, adhere to protocols, and legibly record data. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, travel for overnight stays, and lift and carry up to 45 pounds if needed. Valid driver's license required.
