Seeking the Next Leaders of SFS!

Tuesday, October 13, 2020

The Society of Freshwater Science is looking for the next generation of leaders. And, we think you know someone who’d be great in a leadership role. Perhaps even yourself!

Start today by sending an email or calling up someone you think would be a great fit. In 2021, SFS will have these four positions open:

  • President: The president serves a 3-year term that starts as president-elect (2021-2022 term), then president (2022-2023 term), then past president (2023-2024 term).
  • Treasurer: The treasurer serves a 3-year term, which is renewable indefinitely (in other words, the person can run again) and should be non-conterminous with the secretary.
  • Academic representative to the Board of Directors: This representative serves on the Board of Directors and is a thought leader for members who work in academic settings.
  • Early career representative to the Board of Directors: This representative serves on the Board of Directors and is a thought leader for early career members (those within 10 years post-terminal degree).

And don’t be shy. Self-nominations are encouraged. Your voice, your point of view, your experiences matter now and in the future. Our statement on diversity absolutely applies to our leadership positions: The Society for Freshwater Science is dedicated to promoting diversity among its members and welcomes and encourages participation from all, regardless of ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, physical or mental difference, religion, age, or national origin. The SFS is inclusive and accepting of all people and built on tolerance, respect, and a welcoming spirit at all of our activities.

Send your nominations (including your name, the position, who you’re nominating, and a description of how your experience and vision fits the needs of the position) to Amy Rosemond, Chair, Elections and Place Committee, at amy.rosemond@gmail.com, by December 11, 2020.

The Elections and Place Committee will select up to 2 people to run for each position, with voting to take place in early 2021.
