SFS Summer of Science

Thursday, May 7, 2020

Please plan to share in the learning and fun with the SFS Summer of Science! With summer as our guide, we hope you will adopt appropriate attire at home or in media presentations – in other words, bright colors, beach imagery, and sunglasses are encouraged!

Here are some of the plans – with more details to follow in the coming weeks:

The kick-off and core week starts June 9-12th.  Most activities will occur ca. 2-6 pm ET. In that week – we will have…

POSTER PRESENTATIONS!  If you submitted a presentation to the planned ASLO-SFS meeting, you will have the opportunity to upload a poster to the Summer of Science website by the week of June 1.  Posters will be available for viewing and comment June 9-12th!

June 9th: Presidential address, SFS Fellows announced, and - ‘ya gotta be there’ - the Business lunch!

June 10th: Award of Excellence talk – Dr. J. Denis Newbold.

June 11th:  Hynes Award talk – Dr. Amanda Subalusky.  Awards conferred to Dr. Mike Swift (Distinguished Service Award) and Dr. Valeria Souza (Environmental Stewardship Award).  Plus – SFS Regional Chapter meetings and information session!

June 12th: NSF Program officers town hall and other activities.

We also have exciting plans for the Fun Run and the Student Resources Committee Auction*!

Weeks 2, 3, and 4 (June 15-19, June 22-26, June 29-July 3) will have events roughly each day, with Field Trip Mondays, Workshop Tuesdays, Humpday Challenges, Science Thursdays, and TGI-Fridays (socials, mixers, and affinity group/constituency meetings and activities).

Please join as many of these activities as possible – you will receive a password to access the event site free through your 2020 SFS membership prior to kick off!
