On the Cover: East Fork of the Upper Arkansas River, a head water tributary of the Mississippi River near Leadville, Colorado, U.S.A. The degraded upstream hill slope is part of the active Climax Mine, a major producer of molybdenum. The mine drains away from the Arkansas River into tailings ponds to the north. Surrounding vegetation is dominated by deciduous willow, which are inhabited by riparian spiders that consume adult aquatic insects emerging from the stream.
