ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay seeks applicants at the Green Bay campus for the Director of the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity, which has a 12-month annual appointment and reports to the Dean of the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology. The Cofrin Center for Biodiversity was established in 1999 and has a long history of success in providing student opportunities in biodiversity research and management; in managing 610 ha of diverse natural areas on six sites, including the 117 ha Cofrin Arboretum, within the northern WI region; in growing and curating two regionally significant natural history collections; and in fostering connections between UW-Green Bay faculty and local biodiversity stakeholders, including funding agencies, NGOs, and the general public. The duties of the Director position include the following:
- Provide leadership and vision for the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity in coordination with the overall vision and strategic goals of the university
- Provide supervision for two faculty curators and several professional staff members (currently three full time and two part-time assignments).
- Oversee the management of five university owned natural areas and two scientific collections • Manage a budget that includes funding from both university and private sources
- Collaborate with faculty and staff in Natural and Applied Sciences on teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, including the use of the UW-Green Bay scientific collections and the natural areas as outdoor classrooms
- Manage and support efforts with faculty, staff, and community partners on research projects that involve the conservation and ecology of western Great Lakes flora and fauna and that provide experience and opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students annually (currently 20+ students per year)
- Cultivate effective public relations and outreach efforts with faculty, staff, and community partners • Work effectively with University Advancement on community engagement and fundraising activities • Perform institutional service and contribute to the ongoing programmatic development within the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology and Natural and Applied Sciences
- In addition, the candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in leadership, a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a diverse array of partners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Earned doctorate in Biology or closely related field from an accredited institution
- The ability to obtain the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure at the time of hire • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to conservation of biodiversity
- Demonstrated leadership/supervisory experience of faculty and/or staff
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting and grants management
- Demonstrated research productivity and grant writing experience
- Experience in working with and maintaining partnerships with diverse stakeholders in the public and private sectors
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Interest in western Great Lakes flora and fauna
- Experience in natural areas management
- Experience with management of natural history collections
- Experience mentoring students in research or professional activity
- Experience or demonstrated interest in international education
- Experience with strategic planning processes and implementation
- Experience with community outreach, and public education
STARTING DATE: August 22, 2022
CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT:
The Director position is a 12-month annual appointment, with a 9-month backup appointment as a tenured faculty member in Natural and Applied Sciences. Applicants must be considered for tenure at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor upon hire. Promotion from Associate Professor to Professor can be considered at any time if hired at the rank of Associate Professor. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). SALARY:
