Lake Ecologist, New Zealand
The Cawthron Institute is currently seeking a Lake Ecologist to join their Freshwater Group in Nelson, New Zealand. While this role will have a lake ecology focus, there is also an opportunity to contribute to other freshwater ecology and catchment management projects. The role will include leading or contributing to projects, assisting a range of clients with freshwater management issues and developing research and consulting proposals that promote Cawthron’s objectives for scientific impact.
Description: We are seeking a PhD-qualified Lake Ecologist with a variety of general limnological skills and, ideally with 3+ years post-PhD experience. Experience and skills in the following areas would be an advantage: lake ecosystem modelling, macrophyte identification, quantifying nutrient sources, boat skippering, diving, familiarity with R and GIS software. An understanding of the context surrounding freshwater management in New Zealand would be ideal, including existing scientific and client networks and some knowledge of relevant legislation and policy.
