UA Center for Freshwater Studies - Instrument Specialist

University of Alabama Center for Freshwater Studies (CFS) is looking for an Instrumentation Specialist who will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, training, and routine maintenance of water quality instrumentation within our shared analytical facility. This is a salaried university staff position in the Department of Biological Sciences and supervised by the CFS director. Candidates should show evidence of competence in environmental chemistry, freshwater science, ecology, or related field and demonstrated promise of moving towards excellence in professional practice, and/or research and scholarly activities. Job responsibilities will include training, operation, and oversight of analytical instruments operated by CFS faculty and students. Instruments include an Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer, Total Organic Carbon Analyzer, Elemental analyzer, Ion and Gas Chromatographs, nutrient autoanalyzer and similarly related instruments and equipment.

The Center for Freshwater Science (https://cfs.as.ua.edu/about/) was established to serve the interests of UA faculty with expertise in different areas of freshwater studies and to provide a focus and organized structure for interdisciplinary research and education. Currently, faculty from units within four colleges participate in the CFS and contribute expertise in biogeochemistry, biodiversity, conservation, ecology, geochemistry, geography, geology, hydrology, water policy/law, and water resources management. A variety of core and individual laboratories support CFS research activities.
