Assistant/Associate Professor, Fisheries Science (Tenure Track) — SUNY-Brockport

Job Summary:

The Department of Environmental Science and Ecology at SUNY Brockport seeks candidates to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level with specialization in fisheries science. This position is a 10-month appointment with 50% teaching (9 to 10 contact hours per week during the academic year), 40% research, and 10% service responsibilities.

Candidates with research interests in fisheries management, food web interactions, fish movements, or fish population and community dynamics are especially encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates who employ field approaches. An active research program in fisheries science, which includes MS/BS student participation, external funding, and peer-reviewed publications, is expected. Individuals with the potential to increase the diversity of the student body through teaching, mentoring, or research activities are encouraged to apply. The anticipated starting date is August 2025.

Minimum Qualifications:

All Levels

  • PhD in fisheries science/fish ecology or a related field from an accredited US Department of Education or internationally recognized institution. ABD candidates must earn their doctoral degree within 6 months of hire.
  • Evidence of ability to
    • teach an upper division/graduate course in fisheries science (ecology, management);
    • develop upper-level elective classes in their area of expertise; and
    • teach lower-level core courses.
  • Evidence of ability to develop a research program in fisheries science.
  • Evidence of productive scholarship in fisheries science.
  • Evidence of ability to use field approaches in teaching and research.

Associate Level

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, including
    • prior experience teaching upper division/graduate course in fisheries science (ecology, management);
    • development of upper-level elective classes in their area of expertise; and
    • experience teaching lower-level, introductory courses.
  • Proven track record of continuous external funding from diverse sources.
  • Evidence of productive scholarship in fisheries science, including excellence in independent and collaborative research, as indicated by peer-reviewed publications that often include student co-authors.
  • Recognition by scholarly peers (e.g., awards, fellowships; workshops; invited lectures).
  • Sustained record of service activities that display productivity, initiative, and leadership at college, professional, and community levels.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to teach courses that fill needs in the departmental curriculum, such as ecology, environmental science, biology of organisms, and/or biostatistics.
  • Ability to operate fisheries field equipment, including boats and trailers.
  • Evidence of potential for increasing the diversity of the student body through teaching, mentoring, or research activities.

Salary and Benefits:

The minimum salary is Assistant Professor - $64,842; Associate Professor - $73,090
