By joining the Division of Water/Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) and Assessment Section as an Environmental Biologist I in Hopkins County, you will have the opportunity to gain water quality monitoring experience and in-depth knowledge of Kentucky streams and wetlands through extensive travel and field work. Field work will include the monitoring of multiple biological assemblages such as macroinvertebrates, vegetation, and birds. Field work will also include conducting year-round water chemistry and bacteriological monitoring studies.
Holders of the Environmental Biologist I position will complete tasks such as:
- Planning and executing monitoring activities for multiple water quality monitoring programs.
- Managing field and laboratory data.
- Assisting with data analysis, reporting, and water quality assessments.
- Participating in workgroups and meetings that may involve developing or updating water quality monitoring policies and procedures.
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
- Taxonomic identification of macroinvertebrates, vegetation, and/or birds.
- ArcGIS mapping and statistical analysis.
- Water chemistry monitoring and field meter deployment.
- Data entry and database management
- Technical report writing.
This position may require frequent overnight travel. This position will require working in and around water year round. Candidates can expect to be exposed to extreme weather conditions and environmental hazards such as biting insects and noxious plants. EEC provides opportunities for development and upward movement.
