Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Benthic Invertebrate Taxonomist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the identification and classification of freshwater benthic invertebrates. This role will involve laboratory analyses and contributing to projects aimed at understanding aquatic ecosystems' health and biodiversity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and classify benthic invertebrates using morphological techniques.
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory findings.
- Collaborate with researchers and other team members on various projects.
- Assist in developing and implementing protocols for sample analysis.
- Stay updated on the latest taxonomic literature and methodologies.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in benthic invertebrate taxonomy.
- Master’s degree in Biology or a related field, with a focus on freshwater benthic invertebrates, or an equivalent level of experience in benthic invertebrate taxonomy.
- Familiarity with aquatic sampling techniques and laboratory analysis.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Eastern benthic invertebrate fauna and aquatic ecosystems.
- Current Macroinvertebrate Taxonomic Certification from The Society for Freshwater Science Taxonomic Certification Program, including Study Taxa Group 1: Other Arthropods (East) Genus-Level, Group 2: EPT (East), Group 3: Chironomidae, and Group 4: Oligochaeta.
- Experience in proposal writing and project coordination.
