Freshwater Ecologist — Southern California Coastal Water Research Project

The Southern California Coastal Water Research Project Authority (www.SCCWRP.org) is a government research institute that specializes in environmental research and transitioning research to management.

The position would support development of ecological models and tools that will be used to inform statewide and regional water management decisions. The candidate will work with a diverse team of researchers and agency staff to analyze ecological data sets to develop measures of ecological condition and examine how they respond to the complex interactions of hydrologic, habitat, and water quality stressors in California’s urban and agricultural environments. Initial projects are focused on ecohydrology; however, the candidate is expected to develop a unique research vision that complements other scientists in SCCWRP’s Biology Department and contributes to water resource management decisions in California and beyond.

The preferred candidate should have a Ph.D. (or comparable doctoral degree) in biology, ecology, environmental science, or hydrology with a background in stream ecology or freshwater biology and a working understanding of bioassessment, hydrology, and/or geomorphology. Strong data science and quantitative skills are desired. Experience with environmental experimental design is a plus. The position requires excellent communication skills and an ability to work with a broad range of research and management partners in a collaborative environment.

The salary range is commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a rich benefits package. Interested parties should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and professional references to ecohydrology@sccwrp.org. Applications will be considered until the position is filled. SCCWRP is an equal opportunity employer.
