Summer/Fall 2026 position open: Lake Champlain Limnology/Ecology
Position description:
The graduate assistant will work with the Lake Champlain Research Institute and conduct thesis research on: Limnology/Ecology of Lake Champlain plankton
As part of the MS Natural Resources and Ecology program, the MS student will conduct MS thesis research with the Lake Champlain Research Institute at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. The research will focus on Lake Champlain ecology/limnology of plankton communities and patterns associated with lake thermal stratification. This position includes a stipend for academic year salary with an in-state NY tuition waiver, as well as summer salary to support the funded research project. Applicants should submit materials by January 15, 2026. The position will begin in the summer 20of 26 or the Fall semester of 2026.
SUNY Plattsburgh is a regional leader in environmental science and ecology with strong undergraduate and graduate programs. The Lake Champlain Research Institute is a vibrant hub for research on campus with numerous ongoing projects, 5-7 full-time staff, and typically 5+ MS graduate students working on externally funded projects.
Qualifications: B.S. or B.A. in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related fields. Minimum GPA of 3.0. The applicant must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively on a team. Strong applicants will have prior limnology research experience in field or laboratory settings.
