The Stream Ecology lab at the Illinois Natural History Survey is seeking up to 7 research technicians to conduct bioassessments of aquatic life in streams and rivers in Illinois. Research technicians will work on a crew of 2 – 5 people assisting Stream Ecologists with field surveys. Field responsibilities include conducting fish surveys in wadeable streams and non-wadeable rivers, collecting macroinvertebrate samples, conducting habitat assessments, and water chemistry testing. When not in the field, research technicians conduct laboratory work including data entry, aging fish, macroinvertebrate sorting, and assistance with current research projects.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences has been conducting research on nearshore benthic ecology in Lake Michigan for more than two decades. Specific research topics include benthic algae ecology, nutrient cycling by invasive dreissenids, nearshore trophic dynamics, community metabolism, and mechanisms responsible for avian botulism outbreaks. We are searching for a Post-Doctoral Associate who can help further this research through analysis of a large, multidisciplinary data set, augmented with continuing field research.

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Toronto is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in fisheries / aquatic ecology / statistical ecology. Research will focus on analyzing a large dataset related to the fish community and additional trophic levels, sampled from numerous locations within Lake Erie during the past two decades. This research will be conducted in collaboration between the University of Toronto and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. The overall objective is to study the interactions among fish species and their environmental conditions, such as temperature, nutrients, zooplankton and phytoplankton communities in Lake Erie, to develop a better understanding of factors influencing the dynamics and recruitment of commercially important species (walleye, yellow perch, lake whitefish).

Its interdisciplinary research and education programs link science with action and are integrated across five major areas: freshwater system dynamics; human and ecosystem health; freshwater technology; freshwater economics, policy, and management; and climate and atmospheric sciences.
