Freshwater Ecosystem Ecology - Assistant Professor

We invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track 9-month appointment at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Freshwater Ecosystem Ecology. We are interested in applicants with demonstrated commitments to (1) pursuing a vigorous, externally funded research program, with an emphasis in arid and/or semi-arid ecosystems; (2) engaging in interdisciplinary research and activities associated with the Grand Challenge in Sustainable Water (https://grandchallenges.unm.edu/three-grand-challenges/sustainable-water...); (3) achieving excellence in teaching and mentoring at undergraduate and graduate levels; (4) diversity, equity, inclusion, student access, and community outreach; (5) and post-doctoral experience is preferred by the start of the appointment. UNM is both a research-intensive university (Carnegie R1) and a minority-majority institution. It is located in Albuquerque, a city of diverse cultures in a biodiverse, scenic landscape. The Department of Biology is family-friendly, with 32 tenure-track faculty members (https://biology.unm.edu/core-faculty.shtml) and ~1300 undergraduate majors, a thriving graduate training program, and vibrant portfolio of extramurally funded research. Strong campus-wide connections to interdisciplinary programs are related to water, including the Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program, the Sevilleta Long Term Ecological Research program, the Water Resources Program, Museum of Southwestern Biology, Center for Stable Isotopes, Center for Water and the Environment, and the Analytical Geochemistry Laboratory in Earth and Planetary Sciences.
