Change in PNW Chapter Leadership/Fall Meeting Announced

The Pacific Northwest Chapter of SFS would like to thank outgoing Chapter Chair Dorene McCoy and outgoing Secretary-Treasurer Francine Meija. Dorene and Francine oversaw many transitions within the Chapter and organized several Chapter meetings. The PNW Chapter is also pleased to announce that Robert Danehy will be the new Chapter Chair with Chris Zell as Secretary-Treasurer.

The PNW Chapter has also announced details of the 2018 Chapter meeting in Ketchum, Idaho! The meeting will take place Nov. 6-8.

REMINDER: Annual SFS Taxonomy Fair - Wednesday, May 23, 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm (Exhibit Hall during Poster Session)

Taxonomic experts will be gathered during the poster session Wednesday afternoon to discuss any and all taxonomic issues and help with identifications. We have confirmed experts for Oligochaeta, Trichoptera, Algae, Chironomidae, Ephemeroptera, Hirudinea, Odonata, Coleoptera, and Unionidae. This year there will be prizes for those attendees that bring the 'most interesting specimens' to the Taxonomy Fair.

SFS Early Career Travel Awards Announced

The Society for Freshwater Science is pleased to announce that the Early Career (EC) committee is accepting applications for 3 travel awards ($1000 each) for EC members to attend the 2018 meeting in Detroit. Funding for these awards was graciously provided by SFS President Colden Baxter, from Presidential Discretionary Funds. The awards are to be used by recipients to defray travel costs to attend the annual SFS meeting, including transportation, lodging, and registration fees.

SFS Announces RFP to Advance Strategic Plan Objectives

The SFS Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) has announced a 2018/2019 Request for Proposals for projects that address Objectives and Goals of the SFS Five-Year Strategic Plan. The LRPC is allocated $25K annually by SFS to encourage efforts to implement Strategic Plan elements.

The competition is open to SFS members only, and proposals should be submitted according the process and guidelines outlined in this document.
